Being a creative writer takes a lot of well, creativity. Not only in writing the content, but also on staying motivated and enthusiastic. Since I earn my living in being a creative writer, I have found a system that works for me. I will include some of the top tips that I use everyday to stay motivated and let the creativity flow.
1. Write it in your head first. It goes without saying that if you know what you are going to write before you start, it goes much faster. I always have a quiet moment where I simply think and take down notes. I talk with people and gather stories and work it out in my head. Then when it comes time to sit down and write, the words naturally flow.
2. Write what you find interesting or fun. If you take the fun out of creative writing, then it simply becomes a job or a task. I always write about what intrigues me, interests me or what I find fun. If there is something that does not resonate with me, I don’t write it.
3. Join discussion groups. I find this one of the most resourceful tools when it comes to creative writing. I join groups which involve other writers and we share and swap ideas all the time. We also help each other through writers block and other obstacles that come up. Sometimes the most off the wall idea can turn your writing around. I saw a writer who was stuck for ages on a section, and one of the other forum writers told them to make the character suffer from hair loss, and all of a sudden the character clicked for the writer. Sounds wierd I know, but its true.
These are just a few tips that I follow in my writing career. There are many other things you can do as well. The most important thing I found that has helped me in my writing career more than anything else, was to just let go and have fun.
