Creative Writing: Killing some myths

1: Writer’s block is stopping me from writing

The notorious ‘Writer’s block’–more a symptom of underlying issues concerning the efficient formation of ideas, rather than any psychological problem–can be easily eradicated with a number of simple techniques. Some helpful suggestions:

1) Record notes while at work / out walking; a mobile phone is the writer’s best weapon to hide those all important ideas from the boss or passerby.

2) If you can’t or don’t feel like really writing, make notes on what will happen in your story—a small chart of events gets the mind off procrastinating and on to thinking; more importantly you’ll soon be so fed up with planning that you’ll actually want to write!

3) Write a diary entry of your day. If that seems mundane then why not write a diary entry for one of your characters? You’ll learn more about them and hopefully uncover something they are dying to say.

2: I don’t have time to write my book. If I did I would have written a bestseller!

Many of the world’s most revered author’s started their writing careers while working long hours in other professions; Robert Ludlum and Michael Crichton (of Jurassic Park fame) to name two. Here’s how to get the most out of your time:

1) Write long-hand and keep going until you reach your estimated half-way point—a point where you won’t be able to bare giving up on the idea. Yes, it’s a pain having to transcribe all that writing to a computer, but it beats writing and repeatedly editing what you’ve just done hands down.

2) DON’T re-read your work. This is the writer’s major time-killer. If you must, record what happens in a brief summary, so you know where you are while you continue writing.

3) Write with ear muffs on! It may sound like a joke but writing with quality ear muffs on really enables you to keep the distractions of the outside world at bay and keep your mind focused on the task in hand.

I need some help on this one, I was talking to my cousin the other weekend and she asked me to visit this site on vaser lipo. I am under the impression she is actually mulling over getting this done. How do I undertake the subject of saying that she shouldn’t be compelled to do this and she should try a natural alternative of getting rid of the weight first
